how to get over a fear of needles?

how to get over a fear of needles?

answers 0:i have to get my shots retaken from to go to 7th grade. for most people that is no big deal. but it is a BIG deal for me. there is one problem with it.... I AM SCARED TO DEATH OF NEEDLES! i have tried not looking at them, blind folding and almost every thing else. Please help me! in kindergarden it took 5 nurses and my mom to hold me down. in KINDERGARDEN! how do i get over this fear?answers 1:Well, you NEED your injections to keep you healthy. And it sounds like you are definitely planning to get them, which is a great idea, haha. Honestly, as hard as it sounds you just need to face it, you just need to turn up to school and tell yourself you WILL get them and you NEED them otherwise why are you there? I am sure you are not alone, I had injections at school last year and pretty much my whole friend group was pretty concerned, we just supported eachother. At the end of! the day the nurse is there to help you and they are usually really nice and it doesn't hurt just look away, think of something else, it only takes a few seconds of courage and it's over, you can proudly say that you did it!I have a really annoying habit of just shaking when I am confronted with anything semi-scary, so that make me worry more and I ended up freaking myself out a bit, but I was only in the little room thing with the nurse for a maximum of 30 seconds and they have to keep you there for 15 minutes anyway, just to make sure you're okay, which is almost definite. Also, there may be that one kid that makes a huge deal about it, I had a guy like, lying on the ground saying he felt sick then when the nurses like, interrogated him he confessed that it was only because he didn't eat breakfast hahah! You'll be fine, you got this. :D...answers 2:I feel the same way as you Rosalina I remember when I was in kindergarten I was scared of needles to death but in 7th grade I! just said to myself at least you will still be alive after th! e needle has been injected. Just stay strong and don't let your fears ruin your life just like my autism ruined my life. The funny thing is Im not afraid of needles but they make me illanswers 3:getting a shot is a lot easier than getting blood drawn. Ask to get the shot in your hip rather than your arm. ITs easier for a phobic to get the shot in the hip as you cant see it coming and you feel it less.Control your breathing during the process. If you breathe shallow and rapid, you're going to make yourself have a stress/adrenaline response and freak out / vomit/ faint (afterwards). Breathe in for a count of 4-5 seconds through the nose. then breathe out for the same count through the mouth....answers 4:TRYPANOPHOBIA, or VACCINOPHOBIA is the extreme and irrational fear of medical procedures involving injections or hypodermic needles. It is occasionally referred to incorrectly as aichmophobia, belonephobia, or enetophobia, (Fear of Needles). It sometimes develops into a p! hobia, often from seeing a hypodermic needle as a child, before vaccinations/dental procedures, then experiencing pain, and coming to associate the sight of needles with pain; wanting to avoid the pain, resulting in the development of a phobia. Examine the http://1-800-therapist.com/ and http://www.metanoia.org/choose/ websites, and use the locators in the index pages at Weebly, below, and phone book (but only if necessary) to find a suitable therapist, preferably a clinical psychologist. Systematic Desensitisation Therapy is known to be an effective treatment. I am informed that children are less likely to complain if they are given something sweet (it probably helps them get their mind off it). Some people ask to lie down for their shots. Others ask where it will be administered, and to be told just before, so that the person about to have the needle can smack that place, after which that tiny pinprick has considerably less effect: (the nerves which transmit pain hav! e already started work, from over a considerable area, and the pain mes! sages of the small additional amount of pain, from a very tiny area, tend to get flooded by the others). Obviously this can't be used for dental procedures, but you could explain your phobia, and ask that they touch the sites for the injections with a tool, and you could could jab them lightly with the top of a pen, or pencil, to desensitise yourself. It may help to look away, and think of something pleasant, and promise yourself a nice reward, once it is over. Check out: http://www.emla.com.au I'm sure there would be similar lignocaine type dermal anaesthetics available locally that you could apply to your skin beforehand, to numb it. Google: "dermal anaesthetics; supplies" or ask your pharmacist, or the place providing the procedure. As someone who doesn't like them, either; I consider that it is mostly the anticipation of pain, which is the problem, and once you take that away, by inflicting a little bit on yourself, the "shock value" is gone, in a similar way to how y! ou can't tickle yourself.
