Car totalled after it was repaired?

Stanton Villao: Does a Jetta have a frame? You should not have fixed the car. Once a unibody car gets hit, the wheels never all point in the same direction again. The fact that 2 dealerships said your car is worthless shows that not all car dealerships are crooks! Junk it, or leave it in a bad neighborhood with the keys in it.

Vince Delarge: Oh man....... I really feel for you. Especially b/c it wasn't your fault. I was just in an accident back in July where a man decided to make a left hand turn and didn't see me coming at 55mph....... in my three month old Mustang, so in a matter of seconds my pride enjoy was destroyed (but not totalled- and it wasn't my fault either) As of today, my car has been in the shop for two months...... as far as totalling it? I've begged the insurance company to total it b/c the damage exceeds 70% BUT...... apparently its the law that you can't total the car until it reaches 80% (which I find to be quite retarded!) If you don't owe o! n the car or you bought GAP insurance when you purchased the car- let them total it!!!! If it exceeds 80% of the value, MAKE them total it! If you can get your point across vocally, the do it LEGALLY! B/c it's the LAW that if the damages on your car result from an accident and exceed 80%- they HAVE to total it! Good luck!!!!!! and my sympathies DEFINATELY go out to you! It's bad enough you have to deal with the wreck itself, but...... the insurance companies? the rental car places? the medical bills???? It never really ends!...Show more

Sibyl Siwik: Did the air bags go of? If not it is most likely not a total loss. It takes a lot to total a 37,000 dollar car. If it is a total they will give you the option to buy it back. However if there is a note on the car, and I assume there is, the bank is going to get the check not you. So you will be stuck with a car that needs 20,000 dollars in repairs and no money to fix it with. I hope you bought gap insurance
