Expanding Tivo memory with external hard drive-can I avoid the data striping by starting w/a full Tivo?

Willis Liburd: The external drive in no way is any sort of RAID or striping. It just marries the new capacity to the internal drive.It will record programs on one, the other, or across both as it feels the need to.As impractical as it may seem, you do need to marry the drive, first, because the index is on the built in drive, and may refer to recordings on another drive, so will need reset it and clear the other drive. Bud Espenshade: I'm not sure how the Tivo will react if your internal drive is all ready full but I suspect one of two things will happen, either it will display an error stating you need to deleted some programs before you can use the external HD or it will simply move the files to it thus freeing up space and then it can start th! e striping / RAID process. I'm sure they thought of this durin! g the SW design process.

Coleman Petropoulos: Tivo uses both drives at the same time. so a program is on both drives.
