Why do people not going green?

Daren Ventrice: Because a lot of the "going green" initiatives are not really green at all. I am thinking of "green buildings" and hybrid cars etc. There is no proof that these types of initiatives really have such an impact on the environment. I think that individuals who try and live green by recycling etc, are doing the right thing. However at the end of the day, I dont believe that the impact of individuals are that great. There are a few countries that need to change their behaviour. The USA and China comes to mind. The responisbility rather lies with these countries than with individuals trying to recycle plastic and cans....Show more

Donte Schoenhals: Use something like Fort Peck Dam in Montana or Ohae in South Dakota. The cost is there, and the limits to how long concrete water towers can last in that application. On the other hand, some areas can support such facilities- but environmental groups will fight you every step of the way. It is not adequate to! supply the entire country however....Show more

Damion Oleksa: People may do not realize the importance of going green. sometimes, people may be just lazy. These are fifty easy ways to go green. It helps.http://www.fourgreensteps.com/infozone/lifestyle-h...

Marty Tichnell: Money issues a lot of times...however, I see a lot of people are lazy. Case in point : something as simple as recycling...there are so many people who don't even do that. I asked a couple friends why & they said" it's too much trouble".

Jon Bergmeier: because people all are selfish

Idell Mulliniks: Please in as much detail as possible, can anybody justify the usage of pumped storage energy to supply the nations electrical needs as opposed to wind power and coal power usage?

Lolita Deschamp: Going green needs to be made part of your lifestyle.Takes some work, and some people are lazy.I always look for the greenest way.

Rivka Killmer: You should go to your city council an! d address this issue. You can also go to your city hall.

Maritza Ebanks: So my hunny and I have been talking about wanting to buy five or so acres in the future. He is big into ' going green', and he wants to have our own little orchard of various fruit trees and gardens etc. He is also a big fan of the idea of building our own earthbag/ adobe home, not only financially but its eco friendly etc. Im from Illinois and he is originally from the south who moved up here, right now we are living in NW Indiana, its nice out here but ultimately i think we've decided we would like to try living somewhere else where the weather is more mild ( he wont be so cold and I wont be hot all the time) Trying to find land has been a bit more trying. I've been doing sporadic research and everything inexpensive is in nevada/ arizona ( which wont do well with growing fruit trees in the desert). But is narrowing my search to the SE USA, maybe in tennessee or kentucky, MAYBE northern georgia but thats my line due to the heat. Generally anywhere i! n the SE is up for considerations; the carolinas and missouri included. Would you have any suggestions for counties to look at who may have inexpensive acreage ? My second part of this question/inquiry is to see if any one has made/ lived in/stayed at/been in one of these " earthbag homes" ive been seeing on youtube. The concept is smart, the work would be a lot, but its eco friendly and so forth from what ive seen. However, theres the factor of uncertainty when it comes to environmental challenges ( how do these buildings structural integrity compare to regular houses in difficult natural situations? Such as a unpredicted tornado, flood etc). ( yes, i realize it depends on where i build it and how many precautionary measures have been taken to prevent any serious damage)So, my ultimate question is for those who have serious answers; where would you suggest looking for a semi- large plot of land in the south east USA , that is preferably near a moving flow of wate! r/ lake that wont cost an arm and leg? Just ideas would help me narrow! my searching,. And do you have any opinions about the earthbag home concept? Thanks for taking the time to read!!...Show more

Dana Russian: I guess some people prefer going for orange...

Coleman Deliberato: Pumped storage is not a primary energy supply. As the name says, it is energy storage. The reservoir gets filled when available supply exceeds demand, drained through a generator when demand requires. Pumped storage is a way of allowing intermittent supplies, like solar or wind, to contribute more to the energy grid and a way of sustaining intermittent loads like air conditioning. Overall, storage systems contribute to grid efficiency rather than being primary sources. Pros and cons tend to be economic decisions based on local conditions....Show more

Jess Grizzel: I agree. I would either send a letter or go to the town hall.If they don't think it's a very good idea you could have people sign a petition saying that they would like a recycling center! too. That way they would know that it's not just you who wants it and that it's a bigger deal than they thought.

Gene Debell: When our town stopped recycling, I called the town to complain about it. I guess they got a lot of complaints and they started up again. I would write a letter to the town or call them. I would also encourage other people in my town to call or write to the town. The more people that complain or show that they want recycling, the more likely that your town will start it up again. ...Show more

Floy Fague: OH ! YES if my society people will come forward and take an active participant in cleaning the local area as a weekend programmes should be helpful.so i think that it would behelpful for all of us..

Dorine Nurre: The main problem is humans don't react unless and until the problem reaches it's peak. But considering the Global warming, the problem is already reaching it's peak rather it has reached. So we should think seriously on i! t.

Adan Stribble: Pumped storage is just that, storage. It is no! t a primary source of energy. It is slightly different than a hydroelectric generating station although it may be incorporated into one. It captures energy that can be produced off peak and allows it to be used during peak demand. It could be contrasted with thermal energy storage, batteries, ultra capacitors and flywheel energy storage. Coal is a base load plant like nuclear, geothermal, and hydroelectric gas turbines tend to be used for peaking plants because they can come on line quickly and completely shut off quickly. Base load plants tend to run constantly 24/7 because the plant can't effectively be turned down or off or it is uneconomical to do so. As most plants are of the base load variety this leads to a great deal of unused power at off peak times. An energy storage plant uses that energy to create some form of energy storage. The electric grid must meet peak demand without some energy storage we have to build more power stations. Solar energy is produce! d during peak times and will help to handle peak loads. Wind energy tends to be stronger at night when it is not needed. Energy storage is very beneficial to wind energy production....Show more

Kenneth Queener: Green living is somewhat costly when comparing with our present life style. For example solar energy is costlier than power produced by fossil fuels. Fossil fuel car can run higher distance when comparing with electric car. So people are not going green. If there is a cheaper way people will definitely go green.

Marita Stadick: You may want to look into it a little further. Only aluminum can be recycled in an environmentally friendly way. All other recycling produces toxic waste or is extremely energy inefficient.

Lanita Reichman: Okay, so my town has a recycling pick-up spot only in the spring and only some years. So I think that it would be great for my town to go green and start recycling. But where would I have to go to suggest this? And what! would I have to do?

Rayford Latz: 1. Convenience2. Money3. Lack ! of Cooperation1. Where do you go to recycle your cans/cardboard/used batteries/oil/etc?EX: If it isn't nearby, why are you going to go out of your way to do it? Isn't really going green if you use 2 gallons of gas to recycle two bags of uncrushed aluminum cans (because crushing them would make a mess in your tiny one room apartment where you can only store a couple bags of cans at one time?)2. Same example as above: where do you get the money to drive that distance just so you can recycle your used batteries, extra cardboard, etc since there isn't a recycling plant near you? Your minimum wage job? 3. How many state, local government have implemented a recycling program or "green initiative" on top of there usual trash pickup or regular local services? How many communities have come together to "demand" more convenient recycling pickups or better oversight of wastefulness such as leaving the heat set on high in unoccupied government buildings?...Show more

Ruthe Rea! l: First, 5 acres is NOT enough, you need a MINIMUM of 40 acres.Second, the land needs to be fertile AND have ACCESS to water, (just because water flows THROUGH it does NOT mean that you can USE it in most places; it is called "water rights" and is almost ALWAYS 'owned' by somebody!)Third, land such as described in 'second' is NOT cheap ANYWHERE in the US, partly because it is already owned and in use and 'nature' isn't making any more of it!Fourth, regarding the 'earthbag home', there are MANY places that they will NOT meet local building codes as a permanent dwelling, (however, that is changing in many areas and/or you COULD apply for an exemption or variance IF you had it PROFESSIONALLY constructed.) There is also "spray formed" concrete 'sprayed' over an inflated bubble which is later removed, which also must be 'professionally' constructed; (there are a few in the area where I live.)...Show more

Giovanna Sherlin: According to the latest (only a few days ago) pol! lution information, Hong Kong is listed as bottom 8 with the worst air ! quality in this world by the local environmental concerned group, probably, the Friend of the Earth. Hong Kong with its P.M 2.5 of 59 which is 30 times higher the the White Horse of Canada. It makes me hard to breath and many seniors are suffered with asthma, lung diseases, heart diseases of all kinds, many internal flammable disease, and eye impaired. Hong Kong is ruled under the lame duck chief executive, Donald Tsang Yum-kuen, a liar (by the president of Friend of Earth of Hong Kong), a catholic freak, a passing bucks specialists, a money grabber, a callous man has no compassion to the millions of aged and poor in HK. My uncle and many keep on cursing him to drop dead on a daily basis. Living green is a social responsibility and a global goal to reach the good green living society. Hong Kong is being accused not doing that well like Singapore with measured P.M 2.5 of 19. It is not able the the meet the WHO standard but still far better than Hong Kong. It only reflects Ho! ng Kong peoples are full of greed, selfishness, fear of losing or reducing the values of the individual assests or possessions. Hong Kong peoples are sensitive to stock market indices, housing prices, and seldom give a damn to each other.http://ca.search.yahoo.com/search?p=Why%20Hong%20K...http://ca.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oGkmkBttR...Hong Kong peoples still adictive to stock market indices and property transactions. Why don't want to live greenly and happily? Hedley Index of the daily reports from moment to monent to inform to the public about the true statistics of how many involved the air pollution related diseases in Hong Kong. It is a costly health harrazard caused by the unconcerned air pollution control and resulted many die everyday. http://ca.search.yahoo.com/search?p=Hedley%20Index...Show more

Jana Sakasegawa: Going green is not an easy task. Some people desire to go green whereas some do not. There are some reasons for this. Going green is not just ! about doing things like using cloth bags instead of plastic or paper or! taking a bike to work once in a while instead of driving. There is a certain psychology behind a green or environmentally friendly lifestyle.Firstly going green is very expensive. In order to grow green we must not cut down trees and hills for our benefits but due to the overpopulation, we are compelled to take this step. The price for producing these types of vehicles is very expensive so people do not want to go green. The pair found that those in their study who bought green products appeared less willing to share with others a set amount of money than those who bought conventional products. Therefore people will not decide to go green....Show more

Armanda Hertel: That's a very generalized question. "Going green" sounds like an ad wiz's best fad campaign gone bad, not a solution to climate change - even if it were caused by humans. It is over used. When someone talks about going green, I think green for sure, but green puke - as in I'm going to every time som! eone mentions "going green" now.
