How can i become a vegan?

Burt Cheevers: i say try being a vegetarian first and if u mange that without having problems then become a vegan.

Everette Rovinsky: Well, you might want to rethink the reason why you want to become vegan... but I do have some info to offer if you choose to go through on it.First, you might want to start off by vegetarianism first. It is much less stringent than veganism and personally, I don't believe that veganism is particularly healthy. I do know quite a few vegans and have known many. It is a difficult path and you have to read the labels on EVERYTHING since NO animal by-products are allowed for a true vegan, which means NO casein, (derived from milk) no honey, and many more. OH, and forget leather... no leather purses belts or shoes. And if you are truly vegan, no silk (silkworms are boiled to get it!) Still, if you are set on doing it, I'd buy a good book or find a website and do some research. Forget about eating out... you will be limited to salad with no ! dressing (most have cheese or derivatives of milk like cheese) or pasta with no sauce (remember again, the cheese.) You will need to have a real love of soy, and beans since that will be your main source of protein, that and nuts. And forget the gourmet coffee drinks... you can get a soy latte and that's about it (most of the powders have milk.) If you go vegetarian, you have many more options and also the conscience clear knowledge that no animal died for your dinner. If you shop organic (this will be expensive) you will find that most farms treat their livestock with care and attention, so your cheese and milk comes from happy cows that graze in open land. Veganism is a state of mind, and you must possess it before you can live it. Try vegetarianism first, and see how that goes. If you can get past the meat cravings and reading of labels (lots of chips and crackers have beef fat and beef flavor!) then go for vegan. ...Show more

Kris Bozelle: Becoming vegan because y! our boyfriend is is not a healthy reason. If you break up, wil! l you revert to meat eating? Study all the information available about factory farming, veal, battery cages for chickens, gestation crates for pigs- a lot can be found eiter at PeTA.org, or their links. In Defense of Animals is good too www.ida.org. Google vegan, animal rights, factory farming. Get a GOOD basis on what happens to these animals as they make their way to your dinner plate. If you have one ounce of compassion for other beings, you will see the logic of a vegan lifestyle immediately. It is for health, but mostly for animals. There are a lot of junk-food vegans out there. Start slowly and simply. Eliminate one item from your diet every 2 weeks or a month. If possible, replace it with a vegan substitute. You wouldn't believe the variety of vegan products available today. Get a simple cookbook like the one Farm Sanctuary puts out, or a slow-cooker veggie cookbook. Easy! Vegan food? No beef, pork, chicken, veal, fish, shrimp, crab, butter, milk, cream cheese, sour ! cream, cheese. Nothing who's mother had a face. Also, if you only follow the diet, you are a strict vegetarian. To be a vegan, you must give up ALL animal-derived products- leather, fur, geletin, honey. Search the net for a used copy of "Becoming Vegan". It has valuable nutrition advice, too, as well as recipes. I cook things I can eat as well as the meat (yuck). It's my compromise. I can have the veggies and pasta and stuff, I don't starve.Good luck!...Show more

Babette Deloe: eat whatever you want to eat. dont become a vegan just for him.

Shaunta Paap: Hey buddy forget all that good breakfast stuff get some eggs and bacon with sausage fried tomatoes and mushrooms down you. you will feel a whole lot better Bananas and kiwis eck that ain,t no food for a manSource(s):the greasy spoon truck stop

Cherlyn Tefera: Kiwi will be perfectly fine - Bananas will be brown Nothing will be wrong with them but I cannot eat a brown banana not to sure why, just cant do ti!

Joeann Hoyt: put glad wrap over the bowl and put in the fridge

Dale Mccoun: Someone who still supports some cruelty, just a lot less than most. Free range dairy farms aren't a palace for cows. Buying any kind of milk supports the veal industry.Try soy milk. It's just like milk, but without the blus.

Lino Cawthorne: you realize being a vegan, you cant eat eggs, cheese, icecream...you cant eat doritos, you cant eat oreos...no more cookies, brownies, cake.i was a vegan, i cracked at the sight of an oreo.you cant wear leather, i mean its a big commitment, not to mention im pretty sure your parents arentgoing to buy it and not accomidate to you.im sure this wont impress a guy, hes doing it fora moral reason, you are doing it to get his attention.vegan food list, simple, anything that ever came fromand animal is out. that means almost everything.why dont you just be yourself, if he doesnt likeyou as yourself, why would he like you as a vegan...Show more

Joni Ziak: You could but that would mean one heck of a lot of all bran! , I'd say use the juicer half the time and the other half eat solid

Simona Bulwinkle: Since I bought my juicer and organic vegetables, I fell in love. I feel amazing, it is like my health has sky rocketed, but I was wondering if I can continue juicing my vegetables for life because I heard you should eat your vegetables as solids as well to get the fiber intake? I thought I could just make up the fiber by eating other fiber rich foods.

Kate Baune: They will most likely get a bit of a brown tinge to them. For best results, squeeze a little bit of lemon juice over it (the acidity will stop them from browning) and keep in an air tight container until breakfast!

Giovanni Malool: If you're going to become vegan, don't do it for the boy you like but because it's the right thing to do for YOU. Now, veganism CAN be a healthier lifestyle, if you avoid all the wonderful junk food out there . If you're really doing this for yourself and the animals, great! I sugge! st you check out www.vrg.org. That will give you nutritional informati! on on being vegan. www.happycow.net lists restaurants and natural foods stores all over the world. www.vegweb.com has recipes. Now, hopefully your family does eat veggies, pastas, and other grains. If so, it shouldn't be too difficult for the primary cook to make the side dishes vegan, cook the meat part, and let you cook your tofu/tempeh/seitan/analogue separately. If dinner is a casserole, it shouldn't be too difficult to make a portion without meat for you (cooked in a separate container). Or you can have leftovers. You probably will have to learn to cook. Maybe you can do that on the weekend, freeze your food, and then heat it up while mom/dad cooks dinner. If there's a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's in the area, they have lots of wonderful vegan options for you. Make sure you can get some stuff there, as they're the best places to go....Show more

Kaylee Schmittou: Changing for a guy isn't wise. I am full-fledged animal killing(other people do it for me) potat! o eating omnivore. Vegan's can't eat anything except for celery and beans!

Maurice Breuning: you're planning to make this significant of a change to your lifestyle based on a whim. don't spend too much time worrying about it, you'll get bored with the guy and the vegan thing and be eating cheeseburgers again within a week.

Jesusita Dykhoff: lol the best way to become vegan would be to start out as a vegetarian first. and besides changing for a guy??? thats not being true to yourself or him. Its gonna take a while for you to make a change that drastic seeing as how you want too do it all of a sudden.

Whitley Leopold: I suggest you get your goals in line before you go vegan. You should never ever do anything for somebody else just because you like him. Lying like that will never make the relationship last. CrazyIf you decide to do a lifestyle change like that and you truly want to do it, then I suggest checking out peta.org or goveg.comStop eating meat, ! eating/drinking dairy, no honey, throw all of your clothes away...every! thing.....Show more

Bianca Lannier: i suggest becoming a vegetarian first because being a vegan is very difficult. everything down to your shampoo needs to not contain animal product. and the rules are much more strict. and becoming a vegetarian/vegan(whatever you decide) should be easy to do without your family turning into one too bc you can buy your own food. for example granola bars, soy milk, soy beans, and at the store there should be other varieties of food too...Show more

Thurman Buege: I have the same problem as I am a vegetarian and my family eats meat. The simplest way is to eat what they make and take out or pick out the meat in the dinner. Otherwise keep a lot of vegetable like green peppers, red peppers, onions and fry them up with some rice and that is always easy and you can eat that together with them.

Isaias Badgley: Did you do aYahoo search? Or are you just relying on us?(!) Hope not. Try looking up info at www.vegetariantimes.com . ! They have popups that try to get you to try out their magazine, but you don't have to. Just close them. Lots of ideas there. I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but I'm trying to get more produce into my diet. Or...you could try the magazine & then ask the guy if he has any opinion on it. Everyone likes to tell people how or why to do something. As evidenced here. ;0...Show more

Bethany Blocker: Try being a vegetarian first, and then if you still think you can do it, try and become vegan. But you shouldn't have to do that on account of a guy.

Adam Momaya: It's pretty simple, you just don't eat ANYTHING containing meat, or meat by products, or even related to animals. No Meat, obviously, no eggs, no milk, no cheese, no meat based broths, most soups (which have a meat stock base), jell-o (rendered animal remains), gummies, you pretty much have to look at the ingredients of everything you eat. A vegan diet is not an easy one.You really need to talk to your doctor ab! out this though, as it's a severe change, and taking meat out of your di! et means you will be lacking lots of certain proteins and amino acids that come from consuming meat and meat products, and dairy, so you need to know from a professional how you can supplement that. But seriously, if you want to do this, do it because you truly feel this is what you want, not because some idiot guy is doing it and you want to impress him, that's pathetic....Show more

Booker Moros: I just want to say: JJ has the correct answer and I find it annoying that they were the only one with a thumbs down. wth? And Olivia too! People hate the truth, sigh.

Ervin Overbee: A vegetarian.

Idell Syed: Okay, with your breakfast (like with toast ect) juice some veggies, with lunch (like with a TLT) juice some veggies and with dinner (like maybe some pasta or a big old salad w/ veggies in the salad) juice some veggies! im guessing that would be ok, but im no expert!

Russell Mckinzie: A vegetarian.I pretend to be a vegetarian when I put on my superman ca! pe.

Jesusita Dykhoff: I'd go vegetarian if you want to change. It's a much easier change on the body than going vegan. Vegans are lacking in a lot of nutrition, and instead get to pop a handful of pills in the morning to make up for what their bodies naturally need. Animal by-products such milk and unfertialized eggs aren't hurting the animal any. They're going to make the milk and eggs regardless of whether anyone is around to consume them or not.

Arleen Bussing: a lacto-ovo-vegetarian with a larger than normal conscience =)there isn't a separate designation for vegetarians who only eat free range dairy/eggs.

Leann Villalta: Thanks, I was just wondering

Chris Coggins: Hey buddy forget all that good breakfast stuff get some eggs and bacon with sausage fried tomatoes and mushrooms down you. you will feel a whole lot better Bananas and kiwis eck that ain,t no food for a man

Mitchel Demry: No...Just try keeping them in a cool spot and not on t! he counter or anything! Usually best when frozen. But still no doubt th! ere going to taste good tomorrow morning specially the kiwi. (:

Coleen Carignan: whatever you do, make sure you do it right and properlythere are lots of sites and info out therebut make sure you know what you are doing, if you don't eat properly you can get quite sickwe need protein and that's what you will probably be missing out on if you do it inappropriatelydon't do this for a guydo it for yourself;)...Show more

Dexter Dicostanzo: It's up to you. :)And you can always turn back if you want to stop being one!A vegan is a strict vegetarian who eats plant products only--no animal products or animal byproducts.Follow that rule....Show more

Rodrigo Pezley: You Shouldn't really change who you are for another person, but if you really want to become Vegan, not only can you not eat meat, but you cannot eat any animal products (i.e eggs, milk, cheese or fish)

Alexandria Popik: no. just keep them seperate next time to perserve each ones individual taste

Ronny Nowzari: I have a friend who is a vegan and she looks like a walking corpsesHer skin has no color to it and she looks sickly thinMy aunt is allergic to milk and she has to watch everything that she eats and drinks. A vegan has to watch what the eat and drink the same way as someone who is basically allergic. I can't eat meat and I'm allergic to milk and dairy products due to really bad food allergies. I have developed more health problems due to the fact that I can't have dairy or eat meat. I have to take supplements of vitamins and minerals on top of the multi-vitamin that I already have to take. It's not something you want to be and its a really big commitmentTake it from someone who is sick from being a veganNever change yourself for a boy either. You will find someone that likes you for who you are. ...Show more

Jackelyn Archut: if you drizzle lemon juice or orange juice on them it should prevent some browning. , but as long as its in the fridge its defi! nitely fine!

Brenton Cornwall: Don't change for a guy....you rema! in true to yourself. No man is worth changing. But if you do, just make sure that you are getting all of your vitamins and minerals without milk, cheese or meat.

Coleen Carignan: Don't change for a guy. You have to want the change for yourself, girl. To find out about being vegan, google it.

Wilbert Shellgren: Becoming vegan if a big life commitment. They do not eat meat or dairy products, you would need to take vitamins to assure your body is getting the proper nutrition. Most people do it because of moral reasons, and that is the correct reason to do it, not because you "want to hang out with someone".Don't change who you are for anyone. ...Show more

Rhett Kaines: don't worry, one of my friends had this problem. okay so, you don't want to just become vegan for the guy, here's the way to do it, tell your parents that you want to become vegan for a better lifestyle. If they don't agree on it, explain to them why it can make you healthier. Now, please r! emember vegan is very extreme, please don't do this just the guy.

Jacques Teri: Make sure they are "Free range no kill." You can keep your own hens or buy eggs from a local farm where you know the hens are well cared for, but dairy is harder to come by since the milk industry supports the veal industory.

Venetta Coulbourne: Firstly, you should become vegan because you want to. It is a great choice, but I would first become a lacto-ovo-vegetarian for a while. Once you're used to that, you can go vegan from there. :) I became a vegetarian for a while even though my whole family ate meat every day. However, in order to go vegan, I had to tell my parents to make sure I get all the right nutrients [and now they're becoming vegan too after my persuasive speech ;)--lol, just kidding (about the speech)].Here are some websites that may help:http://goveg.org/http://library.thinkquest.org/20922/index.shtmlhttp://www.vrg.org/nutrition/calcium.htm#table1There's a ton of info! . online. You just have to look it up. :)...Show more

Hilma Pesta! no: Someone who is doing more for the environment (and animal welfare) and their health than most. :-) Congratulations.

Colby Millberg: Stop eating animals and anything that comes from animals or anything that is made from something that comes from animals or anything that is cooked in something that comes from animals. Only eat things that grow from the earth. That's how you become a vegan.

Monty Sieloff: http://www.bestjuicers.com/a_healthy_diet.htmlBeing vegan takes a lot of work and discipline. Make sure this is something you really want to do because you want to, not to impress a boy. Take a look at the site and maybe you'll change your mind.

Arlene Maycumber: first of all, don't change for someone. be yourself :)but if you still want to be a vegan, take it slowly and try vegaterianism for a while. slowly start giving up things like milk, yogurt, etc.all at once is going to be really hard.good luck!

Willa Holte: I'm no expert, but I'd say it s! eems like a bad idea to juice for more than one meal a day. A meal and a snack probably wouldn't really hurt, but more than that and you're missing out on fiber and quite a few nutrients. But if you're eating a lot of other good foods, it shouldn't be a huge deal.

Lou Ravelo: Okay, assuming that you're genuine about wanting to become vegan, why not tell the guy that and ask for his help in doing so?It helps you with your transition AND gives you a good reason to hang around him.Downside: With that approach, you need to be careful not to get trapped in the 'friends zone'.Note: Don't assume the guy is 100% right about all aspects of veganism. Do your own research too - some of the sites suggested in this thread are a good start....Show more

Collin Pelfrey: I am still going to eat diary products as long as they are free range. What does this make me?

Joey Mekeel: i had the same problem when deciding to go veggie.the best thing to do is confront your parents.! they buy the food, their decision.if theyre willing to support you and! allow you to make the change, then do some research and figure out the kinds of foods you want for the week. (ie. buying lettuce for salads for lunch all week, wheat bagels for breakfast, than various foods for meals) then see if they're willing to buy it for you weekly. your family doesnt need to change their eating ways, just support you financially and emotionally.i told my parents i wanted to change my diet and they said it was fine. i made a list of things to buy every week and now they do every sunday. i prepare my own meals for the majority of the time and they have no problem with it.good luck and i hope you enjoy this new lifestyle!!...Show more

Von Houskeeper: Im trying to have a good breakfast. I just chopped up kiwis and bananas and put them in a container together. The banana wasnt quite ripe. Will they go bad overnight ?
