Darcie Peraha: The Picts were named (by Julius Caesar) as people who painted their bodies, body painting is used in many cultures including among aborigine Australians and New Zealanders and in Africa, South, Central and North America, for spiritual, ceremonial and decorative uses.

Salvatore Walls: The tattoo comes from Polynesia (the islands of the Pacific). Once European sailors saw that body-artwork, then they began getting tattoos, too. Body painting may have come from people wanting that artwork, but NOT wanting the pain and permanency.
