What are some old movie theaters that are still around today?

Lissette Semon: I live in Tampa, Florida and we have the Tampa Theater. It is a "movie palace" that was built back in 1926. If you ever get the chance to visit it, it is a beautiful theater in the heart of downtown Tampa. The inside of the theater is made to look like a Mediterranean courtyard, and the ceiling looks like the night sky, equipped with shining stars and all. They even have someone play The Mighty Wulitzer (a gigantic organ that was popularly played before and after the screening of a film, as well as during the intermission) before each film viewing. They still show films throughout the year, usually Independent and Foreign films. During the summer, they show a different "old movie" every weekend, sometimes two. Casablanca, Yankee Doodle Dandy, Gone with the Wind, and The Wizard of Oz are just a few of the films that I've seen there. During the Christmas season they show various holiday films (A White Christmas, etc.) and show It's A Wonderful Life the weekend! before Christmas. When the Academy Awards air in February, the theater puts on a real show. They allow patrons to dress up like the stars, arrive in a limo, walk the "red carpet", and watch the Oscars in style. It is a real treat! If you ever get the chance to visit Tampa, I would definitely encourage you to stop by and check out the theater. It is a gem of the city :)In case you want more information, here is the website:http://tampatheatre.org/...Show more

Teodoro Lamond: My first job was at Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, CA. It's still there. It used to be a theater for plays and musicals and has an orchestra pit.
